7:15pm    Guest Speaker Dr. Nora Disis, Director of the Cancer Vaccine Institute

 

Dr. Nora Disis is the Director of the Cancer Vaccine Institute at the University of Washington. She is also a Professor of Medicine and Adjunct Professor of Pathology and Obstetrics and Gynecology at the UW, and a Member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. She is the Director of the Institute for Translational Health Sciences and is the Editor in Chief for JAMA Oncology – one of the top ranked oncology journals in the world. She is a pioneer in the field of cancer immunology and is known as the “Mother of Cancer Vaccines.” Her research has led to the development of cancer vaccines and other therapies for cancers of the breast, ovarian, lung, colon, and sarcoma. Dr. Disis’s research has been translated to over 25 clinical trials. She was recently invited to join Breast Cancer Alliance’s Sterling Club which honors individuals from media, medical, and entertainment fields who have been impacted by or have had an impact on breast cancer. Dr. Disis was also awarded the 2022 Scientific Advancement and Leadership Award by the Association for Women in Science for her contributions to research, leadership in the field, and service as a role model and mentor for junior scientists.
